The ABS Solid System triggers pyrotechnics. When the handle is pulled, a blasting cartridge releases a pressure wave that is directed into the piercing unit via a hose. The pressure causes a needle to be shot into the cartridge via a piston, which releases the inert gas (inert means inert, the gas is non-toxic and non-flammable). Due to the high pressure of 300 bar in the cartridge, the gas flows extremely quickly via hoses into the charging housings of the 2 airbags. This is where the crucial thing happens: ambient air is sucked in via a nozzle effect which help the airbags inflate within 3-4 seconds.
